----------------------------------------------------------------------

Poker - Not played much, bit more late November. Popped my calf playing Indoor Cricket OUCH. Been on crutches until yesterday !!!!!!!
Dabbled in a few MTTs, only 1 FT to write home about and a slight loss in £££.
One gripe, Crypto has changed the 11pm competition, NOT happy !!!

Villa sit 5th in the Premiership at the moment and to be realistic thats the best i am sure we can hope for. Good results against Arsenal and Man Utd mixed in with Stoke,Boro and Fulham says it all.

Had a great day out at Wembley for the 2nd International Series match.
New Orleans Saints 'Hosting' San Diego Chargers in a Week 8 Match up.
In a very entertaining and high scoring game the Saints ran out deserving winners beating the Chargers 37-32. Devery Henderson scoring the games first TD was in particular the highlight for my pocket £3 @ 22/1 very nice :)

Whilst typing next years game has been announced The Buccaneers of Tampa Bay will 'Host' The Patriots of New England on Sunday 25th October. A very good match up indeed for most ,but, i am personally disappointed. Having already seen the Pats and Tom Brady in the flesh at Dolphin Stadium a couple of years ago i was hoping to see, maybe Peyton and the Colts.
Well Simon and i will no doubt be their though ;)

The Dolphins are 7-5 right now. WOW who would have thought that after last seasons debacle !!!!!!
We sit tied with the Pats in the AFC East 1 game behind the Jets. Do i dare mention the P word ? I doubt it but Parcells and Sparano have done a mighty job to get us this far. In a funny kinda way Favre coming out of retirement was a blessing for the Fins because that allowed QB Chad Pennington to become available and we snapped him up in double quick time.
He isn't Peyton, Drew, Eli or Kurt but Chad has been solid and has got the offence doing just enough. The D headed by Joey Porter has looked above average and its all good just now.

NFL is big on SKYSPORTS and they run their Fantasy Competition every week.
In Week 10 guess what, yours truly only managed to win the Weekly Comp with 163 points :)
A Goody bag on its way but even better, each weekly winner goes into a prize draw. A trip for 2 to go to the Superbowl for the lucky person drawn out. A 1 in 17 chance to go to the Superbowl in Tampa in February would be a dream come true !!!!!!!
Winner is drawn out the first weekend of the playoffs, heres hoping :)

If you want to play go to NFLUK.COM , join (its free) go to GAMES then FANTASY FOOTBALL.
ps Simons already packed his case lol

Should be back at work Mon 8th Dec so will have to make the most of this week.
Now i can walk again i will be back at Hall Green, the regulars might have missed me ;)
So have the regulars on the £2 Betfair Forum Thread, will catch up with them very soon.

Well, finally got arsed to update.

Thx and GL
Neil

July -- 10/30
Year --47/251

A fantastic month for us equalling our ever best total :)
A one in three strike rate says it all. Well Done Gang :)

July Dog Of The Month -- Russ

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Had a great month at the tables where the $5K GTD win was obviously the highlight.
Played a lot more in July thanks to having some time off work and really enjoyed it.
Almost won A 'Gatsby' but thanks for the honourable mention ;)

Unfortunately my car has been wrote off after the accident and will continue to drive the posh courtesy car for now ;)

Footy season just around the corner so Saturdays will become hard work again ;)
Looks like the Gareth Barry saga continues and it looks like he has played his last game for us :(

Anyways Thx and GL
Neil

Big High + Massive Low

Last time i posted we had 5 runners to finish off the month, so on Tues 29th we made the usual trip to Hall Green.
Polar and Teddy ran, both finishing 4th, then the fun started.
Russ ran a blinder to win his fifth A1 in fine style, obviously we were delighted :)
Then 30 mins later Marvin lines up for a S3 race. We fancied our chances of a double especially as Marv had been flying of late.
Traps went up and he found himself in a good position, as the race unfolded we were getting quite excited as he was coming with his usually late charge. Just as Marv hits the front, for some unknown reason he decides to 'have a look' as he goes by. After the 'Interference' he comes home in 3rd beaten Shd, Shd.
Now after 96 races and never showing any tendancy to be Awkward EVER we were hoping that he may be given the benefit of the doubt and just be marked 'AWK' !!!!!!
The result of the race came over the tannoy and we heard the dreaded comments ''Trap 6 Shear Heaven has been Disqualified for Deliberate Interference''. We were distraught. Marvins career has been left in tatters and he may not run again :(
Discussions will be held over the coming days to see if he can race at HG again, but to be honest i think it will be highly unlikely :(

Latest results --

Tues 29th
Polar (1/9) 4th in A2.
Teddy (8/37) 4th in 645 hcap.
Russ (4/22) WON A1@2/1 4.64 sectional :)
Marvin (7/36) 3rd in S3. DQ see above :(

Weds 30th
Shelley (1/15) 3rd in A7.

Teddy 'Powers' For A1 Success

Teddy (Lagganmore Power) has been running really well this month, so well that he tasted victory in an A1 for the first time on Friday :)
His style of running (coming from off the pace) makes him really exciting to watch.
Since taking him to Perry Barr for the Open behind the smart Olygirl he has won 6/14, gone from A4 to A1 and took a 645m Hcap off scratch in fine style. WELL DONE Teddy :)

Last weeks runners ---

Tues 22nd
Shelley (1/14) 3rd in A7.

Weds 23rd
Belle (2/16) WON A7@11/4 well done Lightning ;)

July --- 9/25 (for us Win to Run Ratio is fantastic)
Year - 46/246

On Tuesdays card (tomorrow) we have four runners.
Polar, Russ, Teddy and Marvin.
Our Final runner of the month will be Shelley, she is out on Weds Bags.
Very best of luck to all 5 :)

After my win at the start of the month, the poker is still not too bad, a few FT appearances but no more victorys to report.

No one likes finishing Second :(
BUT Ukgatsby did just that recently in Cryptos $20k GTD for $4,000 :)
A truly Great result Mate WP ;)
I am sure a 'Major' one like this wont be too far away :)

Down at Villa Park. Wilfred Bouma's injury tainted our win in the InterToto Cup First Round.
Lets hope for a speedy recovery.
Gareth Barry came on as a Sub for him and lets hope he can be persuaded to stay at the club for at least another 12 months.

Anyways Thx and GL
Neil

NFL Tickets for the October Wembley game between the New Orleans Saints and the San Diego Chargers went on sale late in May and Simon and I will be there again to see the action :)

Euro 2008 starts tonight, with no home nations in attendance it will be very different but the football should still be good with many of the top Premiership players out there.
A boring tip but i fancy the Germans to win it with Spain taking the runners up spot.

Looking forward to May with Polar having his first run, Lucy tackling 6 bends, Russ coming back and Shelley fully back from season.
I will be watching a couple of Hounds with interest in their careers in England which will start shortly. Their names are Longrange Jewel and Pats Boss.
Also sometime in May puppy Dan should be off to Ireland to continue his progress.

Lucy and Betty kick off our May runners tonight, Tom runs Tomorrow.

The 2008 Greyhound Derby gets underway at Wimbledon tonight.
The first round will be run over the the next 2 nights, not as many entries this year but it looks like quality all the way with plenty fancying their chances.
My early two against the field are Catunda Harry and Farloe Black !!!!

Had a really good April at the tables. Only played about 8 days in total, 1 Win and 8 FTs from about 20 mtts was a great effort :)

The football season concludes in May and there is still loads to play for.
Villa still have an outside chance of making 5th in the Premiership after our recent good run.
The Baggies are guaranteed promotion but still have the Title to win.
Man U + Chelsea are tied on pts at the top and have set up a mouth watering trip to Moscow where they meet in the Champions League Final.
Relegation battles aplenty to be decided over the coming weeks.
In Scotland, the Auld Firm still have the Title to play for and Rangers will travel to Manchester after booking their place in the Uefa Cup Final, they will take on Zenit St Petersburg (what price would that have been at the start)

Finally NFL is back on the agenda, the Draft has taken place and tickets go on sale for the Wembley October game sometime in May.

Thx and GL
Neil

Onto Betfair and again an early exit in EWS.

Played very well in both, got outdrawn a few times in HH but had a massive one go in my favour when i pushed with A8 for my tourny life, got called by AK, A on the flop, 8 on river phew !!!

Made FT in both and got HU in HH v guy who had given me a bit of grief earlier for pushing 5 hands in row. He said i was tilting but i actually had 5 small pps in a row.

11 Heads and 1st place for £290

In the $1300 GTD i finish in 4th for $98.

Off work today so i decided to enter the Betfair 2.15pm $2000 GTD - $30 entry 69 runners
Won a Big 8,000 pot early with the nut flush and i was sitting pretty throughout.
With 15 left i was in a pot for 25k (with the eventual winner) i push with JJ he calls with AK
K on the river to cripple me :(
Manage a double up and back in the game.
Took ages from 10 to 9 before we finally got to the FT.
I had average stack and tried to choose my moments carefully.
We were down to 5 got KQs on button push with my remaining 10k insta call with AA (great timing) and i am gone.
$165 a good return though :)

5 MTTs, 1 win and 2 FTs very happy :)

Onto the Dogs and first of all i went to see my new puppy on Sat 19th.
We went to the kennels of Rachael and Graham, they are a lovely couple.
After a long chat (seemed like we had known them ages) and a coffee they brought two puppies into the conservatory, mine and Gordons who has also purchased one.
They are beautiful, mine, a black dog with 4 white feet and a white chest named Dan.
Gordans is fawn with black and white face and feet named Lachlen.
They were running around and playing and just being puppies :)
Loads of fuss and photos, then back inside for another drink and chat before off home.

There you go, caught up again ;)

The Second City Derby takes place on Sunday and both of us have plenty to play for.
Chelsea beating Everton last night may open the door for us into Europe, if we beat the Blues we then travel to Goodison next week for a massive game.
The Blues need a win to help in their Relegation dog fight.
Lets have a good game and let the best team win ;)

The Scottish National tomorrow and lets try and do better in this than the Grand National.
I know its got top weight but i really fancy Halcon Genelardais to run a Big Big race !!!!!!

Grand National Thoughts

Tomorrow is our busiest day of the year by far, all those once a year punters asking the same old questions but its a great day and usually flies by. Lets hope for a trouble free day ;)

The race itself is as competitive as ever and with the bottom weight carrying 10 stone 7 lbs, only 19lbs covers the whole field which has to be a first. I will highlight a few contenders.

Cloudy Lane has a Favs chance but at around 6/1 i will not be interested.
Comply Or Die i feel will struggle to get round and i think he will be Pulled Up.
Slim Pickings, out of all the horses to finish the course last year i feel he will come out best of them and run into a place again.
Simon was going well last year when falling and although he has a different jockey (possible upgrade for me) i think if the ground doesn't dry up to much he has a major chance (On at 20/1 e/w in December)
Bewleys Berry has similar claims to Simon and must be on anyones shortlist granted a clear round.
Butlers Cabin has AP aboard but i am not sure if he has fallen out with the game.
Hedgehunter will jump round but at his age with a big weight cant see him winning (6-12 place finish for me)
Knowhere is an interesting contender, he beat Our Vic easily in Jan and that form is solid now, could go well at a price.
Iron Man (ran in Gold Cup) is the biggest longshot in the race if you fancy a speculative punt.

Others that interest me if they are still intact with their jockeys at halfway would be Snowy Morning, Mr Pointment, Dun Doire (given too much to do in 2007), D'argent, Turko, Black Apalachi and Backbeat.

My prediction for the race is ..............................

1 Simon
2 Knowhere
3 Slim Pickings
4 Bewleys Berry

probably way off the mark but GL with your picks.

Cheltenham Comments + HG Latest

Well what a week that was.
The Festival kicked off on Tuesday with the Supreme Nov Hurdle, 8/1 the Field, probably the most open betting heat in the Festivals History. I went for Mccoy who was on Binocular and i thought i was off to a winning start. They travelled well all through the race but after the last Captain Cee Bee (Mccoys cast off) wore them down to take the Opener in style.
After race 1 we knew that the ground was Soft and not what we had been told by Mr Claisse !!!!
The Arkle up next and Tidal Bay was a very impressive winner of a substandard renewal.
Champion Hurdle, and who would have thought it that the Irish wouldn't make the first 3 home !!
Katchit the 5yo bravely held off Osano to take the honours with Punjabi taking 3rd. A few valid excuses from the irish who will be back stronger than ever next year.
Onto the Handicaps with An Accordian, Garde Champetre and Crack Away Jack landing the spoils, the latter foiling Ashkazar in his quest to claim the Bonus from the previous Saturdays Imperial Cup.

Wednesday arrived and so did the High Winds. Cheltenham Abandoned. Called off around 8.30am. Around Midday the schedule for the remainder of the meeting came out, 10 races on Thursday and 9 on Friday. That meant the two best racing days EVER.

Thursday, winds had gone, racing was on for Bumper 10 race card.
The Four Miler started preceedings and Old Benny outstayed Over The Creek :(
SA Chase up next and we have our first winning FAV at the meeting where Albertas Run ran out a good winner.
Finger OnThe Pulse held the late challenge of the Queens Barber Shop in the Jewson Hcap.

Next was the Performance of the meeting. Master Minded, a 5yo blew the opposition away in The Champion Chase, sauntering home 19l clear of previous Champion Vor Por Estudes. At 5yo one wonders how many more Champion Chases he can win ?

Our Vic led from piller to Post in the Ryanair Chase for an easy success and boosted my flagging funds ;)
The World Hurdle up next and the amazing Inglis Drever arrives late on the scene to take the race for the Third time. He is the First Horse to record a Treble in this Grade 1 race.
Mister McGoldrick rolled back the years when routing his field in the RP Plate. His winning SP of 66/1 would be the biggest of the week.
Bally Fitz for Twiston-Davies took the Pertemps Final from Staying Chaser Miko De Beauchene.
High Chimes landed a competitive renewal of the Kim Muir from the fast finishing Openide.
Willie Mullins again landed the Bumper this time with Cousin Vinny who i think will be a very good winner of this race (some of them dont train on). Zaarito is better than his running here and was given an indifferent ride !!!!!

Friday was the day we had been waiting for. The Gold Cup match between Champion Kauto Star and The Pretender Denman. Before that though we had 5 races to get through. We had a new race this year. The first running of the Mares only event went to Whiteoak at 20/1. She travelled really well during the race and held off the late challenge of Refinement by a SH HD.
Fiveforthree stayed on strongly for Ruby Walsh as they took a strong renewal in the Ballymore Hurdle. There will be winners aplenty come out of this race and many will go Novice Chasing next season.
Naiad De Misselot came out best from Kicks For Free in a driving finish to the Coral Cup by a nose. Junior faded into 3rd and was matched for Thousands on Betfair at very short prices after leading at the last, Ouch.
The Triumph Hurdle looked a match pre race and thats how it turned out where Celestial Halo made all of the running to beat Fav Franchoek fairly comfortably.
Alan King's Nenuphar Collonges took the 3 mile Nov Hurdle from Liskennett and The Tother One who gave Sam Thomas a few steering problems going to the last. Will be interesting to see when the winner goes back over fences.

Onto the eagerly awaited Gold Cup. Kauto Star v Denman.
Kauto Star went off a shade of odds on and powerhouse Denman was a 9/4 shot.
Confidence had come for the reigning Champion but both horses looked a picture.
Paul Nicholls' other horse Neptune Collonges made the early running with Denman just behind and Kauto tracking him. With a circuit to go Denman takes up the running and Kauto gets in close to one. Away from the stands Denman leads form Neptune and Kauto with Halcon Genelardais,Exotic Dancer and Afistfullofdollars in behind. As Denman and Sam Thomas keep up the relentless gallop Kauto Star brushes through a couple more fences and you can sense he may be in trouble. Top of the hill and Denman is asked to quicken, Neptune Collonges still in second tries to follow and Ruby starts rowing away on Kauto Star, there is no initial response and Ruby gives him a crack. Denman rounds the home turn with a big lead and Kauto starts to run on, into second past Neptune he looks dangerous for a while but Denman puts it to bed with a good jump at the last and sails up the hill for a 7l victory. Kauto Star plugs on for second just holding off a resurgent Neptune Collonges close home for a memorable 1-2-3 for Paul Nicholls. Denman wins and in some style. Halcon Genelardais runs on from way back and is beaten only 16l at the line (remarkable because with 3 to jump he was well adrift).
Now my take on the race and having backed Denman is that there was not much left in the tank, where as Kauto Star didnt jump at his best and the ground softer than ideal for him .
Neptune Collonges ran with great credit and gives Nicholls a head ache where to campaign him from now on. Halcon Genelardais on this run will be hard to beat over extreme distances with his abundance in stamina.
We eagerly await the next installment and on quicker ground who knows, but on this day Denman was a worthy winner.

The foxhunters went to Amicelli, Tiger Cry a good winner of the Grand Annual and Silver Jaro took the finale The County Hurdle beating Psycho on whom Carberry over did the waiting tactics.

I showed a slight loss on the week. Tuesdays selections ran ok with a couple of places.
Thursday a small bet on Old Benny, a nice one on Our Vic and doubled up with Inglis Drever for a nice return.
Friday, small bet on Amicello (thanks to my work colleague) and with Denman doing the business in the Gold Cup i almost clawed it all back.

No winners this week at HG - recap

Cheltenham Festival Final Day

Managed to find a couple of winners on Thursday :)
Onto Fridays 9 race card, don't fancy anything strongly but here goes

12.30 Mares Only
The Festivals newest race, Chomba Womba looks a worthy Fav but i will take her on with Labelthou. Emma Lavelle has her horses running well at present and she will be hoping for her second winner of the week.

1.05 Ballymore Hurdle
See Day 2, Breedsbreeze.

1.40 Coral Cup
See Day 2, Junior.

2.15 Triumph Hurdle
Franchoek is the one to beat, his form seems rock solid and with only 15 runners this year the cream should rise to the top. Celestial Halo looks the only danger.

2.50 Albert Bartlett Nov Hurdle
Gone To Lunch finished only 9l behind Triple World Hurdler Inglis Drever, that should see him go very close here. Wouldn't put anyone off backing Carruthers or The Tother One though.

3.15 Tote Gold Cup
Sit back and enjoy !!!!!!!!
Lets hope we have an epic here, whether your on Kauto Star or Denman lets hope the best horse wins. Nothing else can possibly barring accidents. Personally i'm with Denman ;)

4.05 Foxhunters
Agus A Vic won well last time and he'll do for me, the once smart Lord Of Illusion is an interesting runner and is worth a saver.

4.40 Grand Annual
Wheres me pin !!!!!!!!!! no idea ;) Almaydan maybe.

5.20 County Hurdle
The Finale as trappy as ever. Mon Michel (Jamie rides instead of Wingman) and Missis Potts my two against the field.

Happy Punting and GL
Neil

Thursday 13 March 2008

Cheltenham Festival 10 Race Bonanza

After the postponement of Day 2 due to the high winds we have a Bumper 10 race card on Thursday.
Have given a few tips already but will keep them in time order.

12.30 NH Chase
Over The Creek , see Day 2

1.15 Sun Alliance Chase
Air Force One , see Day 2

1.40 Jewson Nov Chase
A typical wide open Festival Handicap, small interest in Paul Nicholls' pair Dear Villez and Arturio

2.20 Champion Chase
Vor Por Ustedes , see Day 2 (wouldn't rule out Twist Magic if ground has dried out)

2.55 Ryanair Chase
A guaranteed fast pace with The Listener in the field, i give Our Vic one last chance to shine.
He patently didn't stay the extended 3 mile last time but this should be right up his street.

3.30 World Hurdle
I can't have defeat for Inglis Drever, he has beaten most of these before easily and i am sure they won't turn the tables.

4.05 RP Plate
JP's Don't Push It goes in this Handicap and many feel he is very nicely handicapped but at the prices i can't have him on my mind. I go for a speculative punt on Borora who has run well in the past at the Festival.

4.40 Pertemps Final
Have absolutely no idea but if i had to choose one i would go with Nicky Richards Gunner Jack.

5.15 Kim Muir
At 7/1 or 8/1 the field it shows what an open race this is. My two against the field will be Bob Bob Bobbin and Newbay Prop.

5.50 Bumper
See Day 2 also beginning to fancy Zaarito now.

Plenty of stamina needed for this day and who used to say the Thursday of the Festival was rubbish ;)

With Cheltenham being off i turned up at Hall Green this morning to find that around half a dozen of coaches had been diverted to there. With the money burning holes in their pockets they soon got stuck into the action. Hope they didn't back any of ours cos they would have done there dough (results posted later)

Thx and GL
Neil

Tuesday 11 March 2008

Cheltenham Festival Day 2

On day 1 we hit the post a couple of times with a few placings. Hope to be in the winners enclosure on Wednesday !!!!!

2.00 Ballymore Nov Hurdle
A cracking race in prospect with Forpadydeplasterer (lol at name), Aigle D'or, Group Captain, Fiveforthree, Trafford Lad and Breedsbreeze all with major chances. I go for the latter in Breedsbreeze to kickstart Paul Nicholls' Festival but it wouldn't surprise me to see any of these winning ;)

2.35 Sun Alliance Chase
Well here goes my NAP of the meeting runs in this !!!!!!
Air Force One is the horse i am siding with. The track should suit better than it did at Ascot last time where Albertas Run beat the selection, i am convinced he will not beat him today.
Tidal Bay would be interesting if he turns out again though.

3.15 Champion Chase
The betting has got really close in the run up to todays event.
Master Minded, Voy Por Ustedes, Twist Magic and Tamarinbleu head the market.
I feel Master Minded's inexperience will find him out, Tamarinbleu will not be quite good enough and with Twist Magic the ground has gone against him.
That leaves Voy Por Ustedes (who has an outstanding Festival record) to take my confident vote.
A few say Fair Along will run a decent race but with Tamarinbleu in the race he will not be able to dominate at the head of affairs.

4.00 Coral Cup
No real view in 'My' race, just a small interest in Junior.

4.40 NH Chase
I very much like the look of Over The Creek. He will relish this longer trip and he has good form behind top novices last time out. Old Benny and Oulart are others that make some appeal.

5.20 Bumper
22 out of the 24 strong field won on their latest start. In an open race i will take small chances on Lilywhitedancer and Gold Award.

Good Luck on your picks ;)

Tuesday we had 2 runners at Hall Green
Lulu (1/8) Found trouble in her 5th place effort.
Janey (2/7) Finished a tired 4th, will come on for the run.

Cheltenham Festival Day 1

Once again the Festival is here and the next Four days will make or shatter dreams for the connections of the bravest of our Equine stars.
Each day i will post my selections and hope for the best ;)

2.00 Supreme Nov Hurdle
I like Binocular here. I am glad he runs here instead of the Triumph and with AP up i expect him to run a big race. Outsiders Sophocles and Calgary Bay.

2.35 Arkle Trophy
In a poor renewal Noland is definately the class act and for me only has to jump round to win.
Moon Over Miami could run well at a price.

3.15 Champion Hurdle
A decent contest here with Sizing Europe heading the market, Sublimity, Osana, Harchibald, Katchit and Catch Me will all be fancied but i will side with last years winner Sublimity to Win again at the expense of Sizing Europe in what should be a fascinating race.

4.00 William Hill Chase
I go for a couple here who have been around the block a few times.
Split stakes on L'ami and Monkerhostin.

4.40 Cross Country Chase
Heads OnThe Ground bids to win for the second year running and it will take a good one to beat him. Kilbeggan Blade and Casadei could run well at bigger prices.

5.20 Fred Winter Hurdle
The way Ashkazar won at the weekend it will take a very good one to beat him here. I can't see past him. Chapoturgeon and River Liane look the most obvious but as well as the favourite i will have an interest in Grand Schlem and Silmi at big odds.

Good Luck to you all with your picks at Cheltenham
Neil

Early March Update and FA Cup

After a busy start to the month of which all i seemed to have done is be at work or down at Hall Green Stadium. Here is a run down of how the dogs have performed.

Sat 1st March
Marvin (3/12) 3rd in A1, another fine effort
Tom (0/3) 3rd in A2
Belle (1/10) 3rd in A6 , 3 bronze medals

Tues 4th March
Fivo (1/4) 2nd in A2
Betty trialled and graded on :)

Weds 5th March
Teddy (1/9) 4th in A3
Lulu (1/7) 6th in A5, a poor run
Janey (2/6) 6th on her comeback run in A4

Fri 7th March
Belle (1/11) 2nd in A6
Marvin (4/13) WON A2@3/1 beating Fivo
Fivo (1/5) 2nd to Marvin, Had the RFC :)
Betty (0/1) made her debut in A7, a promising run

Sat 8th March
Russ (1/10) 2nd in A1 beaten a SHD :(
Teddy (1/10) 2nd in A3
Tom (0/4) 6th in A2, badly needs the rail

Plenty of 2nds and 3rds there !!!!!
A strange race for us when Marvin beat Fivo, down the back they were clear and the forecast was guaranteed. Where did that 4.71 sectional come from Marv ;)

March 1/14
Year 13/84

Runners thick and fast over next couple of days with Janey and Lulu running Tuesday night and
Fivo, Belle, Teddy and Tom out on Weds Bags.
If i had to pick one out, Teddy would be the one, gl to them all :)

Whilst typing the draw for the Semis of the FA Cup was made.
What a weekend of results with Pompey, Barnsley and Cardiff upsetting the odds over Man Utd, Chelsea and Middlesborough respectively, then the Baggies eased past Bristol Rovers.
With a trip to Wembley guaranteed for all the draw is -

Barnsley v Cardiff
W.B.A v Portsmouth

I believe any of these teams can now go on to lift the Trophy but with Michelle being a mad Baggies fan lets hope the Albion can do it :)

The Cheltenham Festival begins tomorrow and i shall post some selections later.

Gl and Thx
Neil

Marvin (3/11) Won 3 from 6 in A5, A4 and A2 grades also two 2nds and a 3rd. Had a fantastic month unluckily just missing out on Dog Of The Month. Well done Marv :)
Russ (1/9) Injury not as bad as first thought, he ended his drought when winning an A2 on his 4th and last race of month, more to come.
Teddy (1/8) Won an A3 from 4 starts, running consistantly well and will probably trial over six bends sometimes in March.
Tom (0/2) Tough start for him, graded straight in at A1. Ran well in puppy race latest.

Shelley still off on seasonal rest (24th Jan).
Betty has one more trial (probably Tues) then hopefully all systems go.

2 Near Misses and a Winner !!

Played in 3 MTTs and 1 Qualifier last night :- 11.00pm $5K GTD, 11.00pm $2.5K Sat, 00.30am $1K GTD and 1.14am £5 HH all on crypto.
Out of the Sat when gambling early doors to try and get a nice early position. Played a few hands in the 5K and got shortstacked, pushed for final 600 when miles behind and that was that :(
Had a great start in the 1K GTD and doubled up early when hitting a set on the flop, a flush came soon after and was up to 6k. Didn't play many hands for a while so i decided to give the HH a go.
Playing both side by side and watching the cricket Eng v NZ one dayer.
HH i started slowly hardly playing a hand, when a shorty pushed for 450, i had 78s so called, another caller and flop came down 6k9, open ended i check other guy checks. Turn a 5 (happy days) i push for remaining 800 and he calls (has the K), river blank so i nearly triple up and claim my first Head :)
After comfortably staying in the top ten in the 1K we reach the money (top 20) and players start to gamble. FT soon made i have average stack. HH was hotting up (top 10 in the money) and i had a decent stack so i could take a few gambles. FT made and up to 3 heads. Two FTs on the go at once a rarity for me (i know how gats feels now ;) )
Made a few moves in the 1K early on the FT (got some nice cards) and we were soon down to the last 5. HH was mad as usually loads of All Ins being called all over the place.
Last 4 of HH and i KO the guy with the most money (11 heads) :)
Now 3 handed at both tables, needed just a bit of luck to take one down.
1K me SB with A2s push against chip leader who insta calls with KK :( no help and thats me gone in 3rd for $133.
HH takes a while longer and i take out small stack when flopping 2 pair.
HU doesn't take long he has 20k more than me, i raise preflop with an A he calls, K high flop i push he calls with K3, 3 on the turn, A on the river too late his 2 pair wins, 6 Heads and 2nd place for £74. Not a bad nights work ;) off to bed at 4am.

Up early for Hall Green Bags card feeling knackered.
Three runners today all got chances but nothing concrete.
Our first runner Lucy (2/6) misses the trouble and finds herself in front at halfway before powering home to WIN A5@7/2 in a respectable time on bad going :)
Belle (0/8) runs well in A7 finishing a close up 3rd, her turn can't be too far away.
Teddy (1/7) from Trap 6 in A2 (should be a middle runner imo) gets into trouble at the first bend before running on to finish 4th beaten by 2 lengths.

Feb Tues 12th - Sun 17th

Now the NFL season has come to a close i will be playing a lot more Poker.
I have had a good run since starting again and i took down a £2 HH in the small hours claiming 10 Heads in the process, to be honest i played like a maniac and got lucky a few times. Must be the way to play these :)
I managed to cash 3 times in the $5K GTD 11.00pm on Crypto with my best result a 3rd for $500 :)
Had some good results in the Double Your Money (DYM) STTs also, long may my good run continue :)

A very busy week again down at Hall Green and a couple more winners

Tues 12th
Russ (0/6) had his first run back since injury and came home 5th in A1

Weds 13th
Belle (0/7) 4th in A7
Teddy (0/5) 6th in A3, needed the run after a couple of weeks rest.
Lucy (1/5) 5th in A5 (Had a lot of running since grading on)
Marvin (2/8) WON A4@4/1 Two on the bounce, Well done :)

Fri 15th
Janey (2/5) 5th on first run back after AWK, kept her head straight then cut her foot at the pick up, be off for a couple of weeks.

Fivo (0/1) First run of the year 3rd in A3, good run back

Teddy (1/6) WON A3@5/1 unexpected but we'll take it :)
Tom (0/1) 5th in top grade on first run, missing break completely

Feb 5/23

Weekly Review

Lets start from were we left last time with Superbowl XLII.
A great performance from Eli and co gave the NY Giants another Superbowl success.
It was widely thought it would be a stroll for the New England Patriots in their quest to be undefeated, but the Giants D had other ideas.
Congrats to the Giants on their well deserved victory and who will ever forget that Manning to Tyree play in that last TD drive. , truly amazing !!!!!!

Capello had his first game in charge of the England footy team and it was a winning start with a 2-1 victory over Switzerland.
Time will tell if he is going to succeed where many have failed recently but i reckon we have the man to do it. His decisions so far tells us he is his own man and will do things his way. GL Fabio.

Onto the Dogs and a pleasing week,

Tues, Lulu (0/1) had her first race for us and finished a good 3rd.
Fivo trialled before racing and graded back on :)

Wed, Lucy (1/3) came 3rd in A4 after going up 2 grades for winning last time !!

Fri, was busy 4 with runners.
Gemma (0/5) 5th in A8, came off limping and may be retired
Belle (0/6) finished 3rd not beaten too far A7
Marvin (1/7) finally WON in A5@3/1 :)
Lulu (1/2) done the business on only her second run A6@2/1 to give us a rare double on the night :D

Sat, Lucy (1/4) 3rd in a decent A5
Tom also trialled before racing and hopefully he will have his first race for us at the weekend.
I have changed his name to Benlass Patriot now after the NGRC granted us the Prefix 'BENLASS'.
Most of our future purchases will run as Benlass _____ (gonna work through the NFL teams)

Lulu and Russ out Tues night. GL to both.

Thanks for looking in,

Superbowl XLII, Wembley + Lucy

Tonight is Superbowl XLII in Arizona where the Unbeaten New England Patriots take on the New York Giants. History could well be in the making for the Pats as no team has ever gone 19-0 in a single season.
After watching the Giants beat my Miami Dolphins at Wembley in October i was convinced they were not a Superbowl contender but Eli and co have proved many people wrong including myself. Eli is trying to emulate big brother Peyton in winning a Superbowl Ring after he took the Colts to win in Miami last year (How proud must Dad Archie be ;)
I personally feel the Pats will be too strong through the air and Brady will find his receivers all to often.
For the improving Giants to win i feel Brandon Jacobs will have to have a BIG game, carrying the ball over 20 times during the match and keep pounding away at the Pats D to set up the pass for Eli and in particular Plexico Burress who is their Big time Receiver.
The Pats however have looked in a different League to all this season dominating most matches with ease (Baltimore and Indy asides)
The pick up of Moss and Welker pre-season was massive and Brady has had fun all season throwing to those most gifted receivers which culminated in Brady breaking the most TD passes record for a single season.
In short the spread of 12-13 points on the Hcap for the Pats is big enough for any game never mind a Superbowl to cover as anything can happen in a one off matchup so i will be not playing on that line. In all of the Pats Superbowl wins they have won each of those games by 3 points !!!!
I am sure the Pats will take any victory so they can have their perfect season and join the 1972 Dolphins as Undefeated (Miami 17-0, only 14 regular season games)

My picks for tonight are :-

First TD - W.Welker (Pats) + P.Burress (NY) Got to have one from each team ;)
First Time Out - NY Giants , in my eyes Bet of the match
Fieldgoal missed - Yes , Tynes will see to that
HT/FT - NE Pats/NE Pats (4/7 ish on Bfair)

GL on your picks whatever they are :)

During the run up to Superbowl XLII it has been announced that Wembley will stage another Regular Season Game with the New Orleans Saints 'Hosting' the San Diego Chargers on Sunday 26th October.
It promises to be a great Game with some of the NFLs Top players in action.
Tickets go on sale in May and application already sent ;)

We have had a good start to the month at HGreen.
Lucy (1/2) Won an A6@9/4 on only her second start :D
Belle (0/5) ran better when finishing 3rd
Marvin (0/6) a fast finishing 2nd in A5 on Saturday.

FEB 1/3
Year 3/35

Lulu Trialed on Friday and Graded on, She has her first race for us on Tuesday in A6.

Thanks for reading and Good Luck

January Dog Round Up

January's final week saw no winners, recap -
Weds 23rd - Shelley (0/5) 3rd
Fri 25th - Gemma (0/3) 3rd, Belle (0/4) 5th, Marvin (0/5) 4th, Russ (0/4) 3rd, Teddy (0/4) 3rd, Lucy (0/1) had her first run for us and finished 4th in an A5
Last night saw us with two runners Russ (0/5) went in a Maiden Open Race as a reserve and ran a respectable 4th from trap 3 which didn't suit, unfortunately he has cut his foot open and will be sidelined for about a month :(
Marvin ran in a 6 bend Hcap, but the race was void due to a trap failure :( , not a good nights racing.
Gemma (0/4) finished 5th today on Bags.

January Stats and comments :-

Janey (2/4) Won A6 + A5 going great until Awkward, short rest then try again with her.
Lucy (0/1) Had her first race in A5 and after early crowding she showed good promise.
Teddy (0/4) Struggled in A2, now in A3 hopefully winning again soon.
Gemma (0/4) Not troubled the judge in A8, loves her racing but cant see her winning.
Belle (0/4) A6 a bit high for her at the moment.
Marvin (0/5) Still frustrating, should win soon but been saying that for a while.
Russ (0/5) Running well in Top Grade + Open, Injury to keep him off for a month.
Shelley (0/5) Hectic start to the year, now has come into Season (24th) and having a deserved rest.
Lulu - Had trials after Seasonal rest should have her first run soon.
Fivo - Had a Sprint and a four bender will be back soon.
Betty - Had a Sprint, press on with four bends next week.
Tom - New arrival has had a couple of trials, needs one more to make the card.

Our JAN Dog Of The Month --- Janey

January (2/32) .As you see win to runners not good, hopefully will get better.

Looking forward to Feb where a couple should make their Debut's, we kick off with Belle and Lucy on Friday who both get a Downgrade !!!!!!!

Be Lucky
Neil

Tuesday 22 January 2008

Janeys High + Low and a new Arrival

Since coming back from her Seasonal Rest Janey has been flying, Friday saw her win her Second race (2/4) A5@2/1 but at a price, she was marked Awkward (and rightly so) as she went by up the home straight :(
On the same card Teddy (0/3) finished a tired 4th in an A2.

Earlier in the week on Tuesdays Sky card Marvin (0/4) finished a fast finishing 2nd in A4.
In my last post i said Directors Chair was a good bet, i had a nice bet on him and when he hit the lids flying i was on very good terms with myself. After going about 5 lengths clear i was certain i would be collecting but has the dogs rounded the last couple of bends Tuftys Pearletta had other ideas and got up in the dying strides :(

Russ (0/3) was our only runner on Sat night and for once he fluffed his lines as the traps opened and trailled in 5th, We were still proud of him as we collected the Trophies from his December exploits :)

Year to date 2/23

Lucy and Lulu both had trials in their quest to grade on shortly.

Monday was the latest Perry Barr sales and we (In patnership with our good friends Dave and Anne) took the plunge in buying a Mar 06 Dog pup named Rathronan Topper (Tom) GL Tom :)

Well done to both the New England Patriots and the New York Giants who will contest Superbowl XLII in Arizona on Feb 3rd.

GL to you all and thanks for dropping by :)

Monday 14 January 2008

Hall Green Owners Night + Dog of The Month

No luck for any of our six runners on Sat night (as expected) the best placings were a couple of 3rds -- placings :-

Gemma (0/2) 4th
Belle (0/3) 4th
Shelly (0/4) 5th (needs a rest 4 runs in 12 days a bit much for her)
Teddy (0/2) 3rd
Janey (1/3) 3rd
Russ (0/2) 4th
hopefully a couple of downgrades soon for a few of them.
On a positive note Lulu had a sprint before racing and she went nicely.

Marvin (0/3) on Friday was really unlucky coming to win the race he got took out big style and lost all chance eventually finishing last :( , next time in a 6 bend H'cap :)

Year to date (1/19) not a good win to run ratio but in all honesty we have only fancied about 4 of the runners !!!!!!

Prestige Final on SKY tomorrow and Directors Chair will take some stopping 5/4 is a good price IMHO
Marvin runs on the card in an A4 after the cameras stop rolling , hopeful more than confident

On Friday we found out that Blue Taurus had won the Dog Of The Month for December, a fantastic achievement and a first for us :D , He won 4 from 5 and finished 3rd in the other , Well Done Russ :)

Wednesday 9 January 2008

2007 Review

Lets start with the Hounds (alphabetically)

BEANIE BEAR - Bea only had 5 races in 07 before injury cut short her career. 0/5 in 07 and 3/11 career. The RGT found her a home in September and she has settled in nicely.

BLUE HAWAII - Purchased at HG sales in March, Fivo has had many problems since arriving on these shores. His record of 4/29 doesn't set the world alight but he's a better dog than that.
Has won a A5 and Three at A4, wont be seen this year until probably February after his latest setback.

BLUE TAURUS - Well what can i say about this fella. 15/52 in 2007 a fantastic effort. Russ has improved throughout the year winning races from A5 up to the Top Grade of A1. In December he won 4/5 including our very first Hatrick.

CHANCERY GRA - Chelsey had her career abruptly ended in February when she broke her Hock whilst racing. She was 2/5 in 07 and moving nicely up the grades. Her career was 4/25 and after many trips back and forth to the vets she is living the life of luxury at home with us.

CHOCOBOBBLE - Bobby was purchased at HG sales in March, unfortunately his career (0/2) only lasted 2 races before injury struck. He also has the life of luxury our friend Eunice who took him home in August.

DEVON JANE - Janey was also purchased from the March HG sales, her record stands at 0/13 (oh dear). She has just come back from seasonal rest and we hope she can get her head in front in the near future !!!!!!!

HAPPIER NOTE - Purchased in September from PB sales. Belle's record is 2/11, she struggled early doors and won her first race at the 9th attempt at A8, she doubled up at A7 next time out and we think she will come into her own when stepped up in distance when old enough.

HILLCROFT GEM - Gemma was restricted to 19 races in 07 winning on two occasions in A8 company. Will we play it by ear and if she shows us shes had enough then retirement beckons.

KILAHARRY ARCHIE - RIP, Purchased in January. What a rollercoaster poor old Archie had. In Short he won 2/18 got a DQ, had clearing trials then got marked Awkward. Not wanting to go the Hurdles route he was retired in August. Whilst on the RGT waiting list he suddenly fell ill in November with heart problems and at only 2 years old he passed away. RIP.

LAGGANMORE POWER - Teddy is the latest edition to the clan and what a start he made for us winning on his first start in A3 company on 7th December. He is now 2/5 and has contested A1 races without success. His future probably lies over 6 bends in the near future.

PANDORAS HOPE - (Pandoras Hope-less) as i renamed her !!!!!!! This gorgeous blue bitch had a 1/21 record in 07 and a career of 3/33 for us before we retired her in August due to slowness and niggling injuries. She now has a lovely home with our friends Pam and Alan.

SHEAR HEAVEN - Purchased early January Marvin's record of 5/44 in 07 is an injustice to him.
A fast dog on his day he has been anchored by being seeded Wide for all but 2 of his races. He races over both 4 and 6 bends winning 3 and 2 respectively. His win record % will definately improve now the (W) has been taken off.

STEEPLE RD JO - Unfortunately never raced for us. Purchased way back in October 2006 Jo went lame trialling in. We persevered with him until his Wrist couldn't stand up to it in January. Jo then went on the HG RGT and he found a loving home in September.

WERE JUST BACK - Shelley a bargain basement buy won 10/48 in 07 winning in grades from A8 up to A5. A very consistent laid back bitch she is a joy to own.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Purchased at HG sales in October were

RELIGHT MY FIRE - Lulu has had 2 trials before coming into season.
LUCY SCHOLES - Lucy is trialling in now after a slight setback.
KEVITT RUBY - RIP , Ruby died at the vets after contracting a life ending illness (complicated, story for another day).

BETTYS HOTPOT - Betty is a youngster who was a replacement for Ruby. Came over in December and will probably trial in at the end of February.

So with 45 wins in 2007, our best ever year we look forward to beating that in 2008 with the help of Mark and Stuart.

POKER

Strange year where i played lots at some stages and then not at all for a long period of time. (probably due to work and Dog commitments)
Ended the year with 6 wins and 70 more FTs (thanks to Gats and the £2 thread on the Betfair Poker Forum)

Will play more when the NFL season winds down and my aim is to win a nice tournament around the $5K GTD mark, see you at the tables soon.

ASTON VILLA and MIAMI DOLPHINS

Well Martin has got us playing decent football and the young kids are improving fast. Interesting in the window if we can pick up a target man to rival Carew (who has done well but dont think he takes us to the next level) so the young guns can feed off. Think we will finish pretty much where we are now but with a good second half to the season who knows we might even geta European spot :) heres hoping anyway !!!!

Miami Dolphins finished the regular season with a dismal 1-15 record :( , the only game we won was against the Ravens and that was in OT after a missed FG by them.
Injuries to key players as Green, Brown, Thomas etc etc didn't help the cause but in plain truth we were garbage. We now have the First pick in the Draft but we need Parcells and co to get quality Free Agency players to turn the team around. Frankly i think it will take a while to get a winning season again but in the NFL you never know.
A big up to the NE Patriots who went 16-0 in the regular season , now lets see if they can emulate the 72 Dolphins by going Undefeated.

OTHER MATTERS

We did finally move house in September and we have settled in well. Wondered why we didn't do it a long time ago the extra space is great.
A big thanks to my Vauxhall Cavalier who i spent 8 years with but time had come to move on and i now have a Civic (please be as reliable as the Cavvy)
Work is as frustrating as ever and i do hope this time next year i will be out of this shitty shop.

There we go then i finally got round to updating :)

Thanx for dropping by and GL everyone and have a great 2008 :)
